Solitude in Shared Spaces

I drove to Atlanta on 3/14 to spend a few days with my mom. This was the same weekend that murmurs of statewide shutdowns spread across the country. The thought of being away from my home indefinitely made me feel anxious and uncertain. How would I stay grounded and keep my center while in the mix with so many other people? Then I remembered, I was prepared. I remembered that the whole premise of Spatial Therapy is the practice of returning to the Home Within any time, any place.

In this video I discuss a few ways one can maintain their privacy and personal space while living with others. These practices are helpful in maintaining a sense of internal privacy, which is possible at any moment, regardless of how near another person is. External privacy is the physical separation of self from others and often requires one to set clear boundaries with house mates (and with self).

Everyone deserves their own space within the home. We all at some point need an environment where we have dominion: a bedroom, office, studio, reading corner or more simply, a journal. Regardless of its size, this place allows a person to explore their depths and discover what lies within.
